I completed my honours degree in Social Science in 1991 and then travelled extensively in Australasia, including spending 13 months getting lost in a 1971 VW campervan. On my return I worked in customer service, social care, and finance (to name a few). It wasn't until after the birth of my two children and the completion of an MA in Creative Writing in 2010, that I started to hope writing could be more than a hobby.
Since that point I have had several short stories, poems and flash fiction published on-line and in magazines/anthologies, including Writers Forum and Mslexia. I have won several competitions as well as being shortlisted for the Debut Dagger Award. My complete list of achievements, including the most recent, can be found on my blog: Sue Dawes
I am currently studying for a PhD in Creative Writing at Essex University, and writing a speculative fiction novel. In addition to writing, I help run a community writing group: Colchester Writenight and work part time as a manuscript assessor for the Writer's Company.
As well as books, I love television and film and will watch anything that involves werewolves, time travel, murder, or is set in the future.
